#1 – La Bottega

Posted on November 2, 2011 by Sonia Riahi

Ranked #1 on our “Byward’s Best Lunches Under $15” is La Bottega.  Surprise surprise, we ended up agreeing with all the rave reviews out there.  There isn’t much to not like about La Bottega.  The winding store front gets you in the mood of Italy:  pasta, olive oil, panettone (if you haven’t tried this sweet bread loaf, go and try it now, it’s absolutely heavenly), coffee…you really do feel like you’re on a little trip.

There isn’t anything that can beat the value of the $4.99 cold sandwich – your choice of artisan breads, cheeses, meats, and toppings; think of it as a fancier subway without the increase in price.    Too much to eat in one sitting?  The sandwich makes for wonderful leftovers.  If you do have time to wait for a seat in the back, the more expensive hot meals are still a good deal and the flavours are worth it.   The best part?  Topping off the meal with some much needed caffeine in the form of an espresso, another reminder of past travels .  I always leave La Bottega with a smile on my face and a mental calculation of when my next vacation will be.
