#7 – SmoQue Shack

Posted on October 27, 2011 by Ashima Kudaisya

Ranked #7 on our “Byward’s Best Lunches Under $15” is the SmoQue Shack, a good choice for the carnivores out there.  Don’t be put off by the fancy exterior, this place offers quite the bang for your buck.  Recently opened this summer, this place offers great deals on bbq meats, with sides being extra, allowing you to mix and match and buy just enough food to satisfy you.  The 1/4 pound beef brisket, mac & cheese side, and coleslaw side came in at under $15…with the 1/4 pound of beef brisket being just $4, it was just the amount of meat I wanted.  While the mac & cheese was so-so (much better the next day as a leftover), the meat was delicious – tender with great flavour and the saurkraut was amazing.  Ashima raved (and perhaps even drooled) over the jerk chicken which even she, who is used to Indian spices, thought was spicy and comparable to the taste of Jerk chicken in Barbados.

It is a sit-in restaurant, but you can call in your order 20 minutes ahead of time and just pick it up for those days where time is of the essence (and there are a lot of those days).  Great for lunch or dinner, glad this made it to the market…though our arteries might disagree :0)
